View Upcoming EventsMOVES is a contemporary dance and movement-based workshop for youths ages 12+. Taught by STEPS PDX instructor Alexander Dones, the focus of MOVES is for individuals to explore their own creativity through movement and to find more confidence in expressing their creative voice by using the body in a safe, supportive environment. All skill levels are welcome.
Participants are led through a series of task-based movement games and exercises, both individually and as a group, with each task connecting to the next. While previous dance experience is not required, this workshop is movement-based and requires participants to utilize their bodies in safe, monitored exercises.

Alexander Dones is an interdisciplinary artist from Portland, Oregon, with an emphasis on dance. Throughout his travels, he has had the opportunity to perform, choreograph, and collaborate with various companies and choreographers including the internationally-acclaimed choreographer Doug Elkins. Alexander has had the privileged opportunity to travel throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia performing and teaching at notable venues and festivals, including the Joyce Theater, Fall for Dance at City Center, Jacob’s Pillow, The Yard, the Lobero Theatre, Théâtre de Suresnes Jean Vilar, Newmark Theatre, New Dance For Asia Festival, and others.
Alexander is also a certified member of Youth Protection Advocates in Dance, an organization created “as a response and solution to various negative trends that commodify and exploit youth and adults in performing arts.” For more information about Alexander and his ongoing projects, you can reach him at AexanderDones.com.
