Post-Show Discussion: Kamilah Bush in Conversation with Shalanda Sims & Joy Alise Davis
Please join us for a post-show conversation inspired by August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean, with Joy Alise Davis, Executive Director of Imagine Black, and Shalanda Sims, Director of World Stage Theatre, moderated by PCS Literary Manager Kamilah Bush.
Post-show discussions are one-hour casual talks where community members and guest artists share personal reactions and thoughts inspired by the play. The discussion begins immediately after the matinee performance.
Kamilah is a dramaturg, playwright, and educator originally from North Carolina. She holds a B.F.A. in Theater Education from UNC-Greensboro. Currently, she is the Literary Manager at Portland Center Stage in Oregon, before which she spent several seasons at Two River Theater in Red Bank, NJ, Asolo Repertory Theater in Sarasota, FL, and Triad Stage in Greensboro, NC.
Joy Alise Davis is from Cincinnati and lives in Portland, Oregon. Currently, Joy Alise serves as the Executive Director of Imagine Black, where she works to help our Black community imagine the alternatives they deserve and build political participation to achieve those alternatives.
Shalanda Sims is a wife, mother, and active member of her community. She is an actress, singer, writer, founder, and director of World Stage Theatre, Black History Festival NW, a member of the American Guild of Musical Artists, Dramatist Guild, and Actors’ Equity Association. An Oregon native, Shalanda studied theater at the University of Portland, English at Portland State University and teaches theater and playwriting to students K-12. Locally, Shalanda has performed with Portland Center Stage, Portland Opera, and the Oregon Symphony. Some of her original plays include Vanport, Who I Am Celebrating Me, Church Girls, and Full-Time Woman. She has a passion for history and writes stories reflecting humanity and a little bit of fantasy.
