November First Thursday featuring PSU Mariachi Rosas del Sol Ensemble
Join us for November First Thursday, featuring a special live musical performance titled Rosas Del Muerto by members of the PSU Mariachi Rosas Del Sol ensemble to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos. There will also be vendor tables by artist Cositas PDX, Trans Wardrobe Project, Mercado Lula, Candy Girl Piñatas, art exhibits by Alejandro IV Barragan and Maria TD Inocencio, with complimentary select beer provided by Deschutes Brewery.
PSU Mariachi Rosas del Sol's ROSAS DEL MUERTO features a colectivo of musicians who are all a part of PSU's Mariachi but have formed this special ensemble to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos at Portland Center Stage. They will play a mix of mariachi songs and improvisational numbers spanning many genres of music.

Our mission at the Trans Wardrobe Project is to reduce suffering and increase joy in the lives of Trans Americans by providing complimentary wardrobes, style guidance, and support. Everyone deserves to feel like themselves, and money should never be a barrier between a Trans person and the gender-affirming care they deserve–and that includes clothing.
By collecting pristine second-hand clothing from our community, and allies, and partnering with gender-affirming, gender-neutral, and other clothing brands, we curate custom wardrobes for our recipients. Our Wardrobe Curation Specialists work hand in hand to create the wardrobe of our recipients’ dreams, while also providing proper sizing and style guidance.
We proudly support all Trans, Non-binary, and Gender Nonconforming folks in the US regardless of race, age, location, or economic status, however, we try to prioritize TransPOC, and those in locations that lack basic LGBTQIA+ resources, and community.

Mariachi celebrates the rich tradition of music in Mexico and the Mexican diaspora in the United States. With trumpets, violins, harps, vihuelas, guitars, guitarrónes, and vocals performing traditional mariachi repertoire, the ensemble performs in the community for various events.
The ensemble has music majors, non-music majors, and community members of all ages and experience levels performing together, making it truly a community-based ensemble.
The PSU Mariachi Ensemble (made up of non-Western music ensemble music majors), celebrates the rich tradition of music in Mexico and the Mexican diaspora in the United States. With trumpets, violins, harps, vihuelas, guitars, guitarrónes, and vocals performing traditional mariachi repertoire, the ensemble is known for their inclusive attitude and unique style, these ensembles provide an alternative large ensemble environment for PSU music students and non-majors alike.

From Caro, founder of Candy Girl Piñatas: When I was a child, my mom made my birthday piñatas. In fact, she learned how when she was pregnant with me in Venezuela.
In 2022, I was inspired to make one for a special kid in my life and discovered a deep passion. We immigrated to the US from Peru when I was 9 years old, and reconnecting with piñatas now has brought me a lot of joy and satisfaction.
I make piñatas because they stimulate my imagination, I am meticulous in their construction even though they are destined to be destroyed because what they represent as items of beauty and impermanence is important to me. Our cultural individuality, our brightness, playfulness, and dreams.
I make custom art piñatas meant for display but also meant for breaking. It is up to the customer when the time feels right. These pieces take as little as 12 hours and sometimes up to 24 hours to make.
