View Upcoming EventsJoin us for a Native Gardens pre-show Happy Hour with Backyard Habitat Certification Program Manager, Susie Peterson and founding member and current program habitat technician Robin Jensen to learn how this program is turning more than 5,500 urban and suburban yards into natural habitats that create a network for native pollinators and other wildlife in our region.

Backyard Habitat, in partnership with Columbia Land Trust and Portland Audubon, have teamed up to create a unique program that supports urban gardeners in their efforts to create natural backyard habitats. It’s through their collective efforts to revitalize urban landscapes that positive change is made. Together they make our cities a healthier place, for ourselves and for wildlife. The community of Backyard Habitats is over 5000 strong, and growing every day.

Susie is passionate about helping community members create vibrant and beautiful spaces in their yards and neighborhoods. Before joining the Land Trust she worked at Friends of Trees helping neighbors at community planting events. Susie loves nearly any outdoor activity, but especially enjoys hiking, camping, birdwatching, and looking for interesting flora and fauna.

Robin is a founding member of the Backyard Habitat Certification Program, where she still plays a vital role as one of their habitat technicians in SW Portland. She is an active member of the Friends of Marquam Nature Park, where she’s served as board president. She’s also an active member of the West Willamette Restoration Partnership and has been a Master Gardener and an Oregon Master Naturalist.
