Delve into the beautiful, mysterious world of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream in this three-hour, pre-show Sunday seminar. Explore the play's luminous poetry, its dramatic structure, and its place in Shakespeare's writing. Learn how performances have addressed its treatment of magic, gender and genre, and discuss why it remains a rich, multifaceted masterwork for us today. Please read any edition of the play beforehand and bring your copy with you to the seminar.
About the instructor: Daniel Pollack-Pelzner is an English professor at Linfield College. He received his B.A. in History from Yale and his Ph.D. in English from Harvard. He has published and lectured widely on Shakespeare and British literature, helped to edit the Norton Edition of Shakespeare's complete works, and is currently writing a book on Shakespeare adaptations.
