WORD.VOICE.
Using the power of performance in art to transform the lives of youth at the edge…

Having survived on Portland’s streets, lived in its treatment centers, or learned at its alternative schools, PlayWrite Inc.’s young writers bring unique perspective to stories that dive to the heart of truth. In a two-week workshop, young writers work with coaches to create original plays set in non-human worlds, with characters ranging from a furry brown coconut to a tumbleweed who raps. The process ends with youth directing professional actors in a performance of their works. Past collaborations include performances by Wade McCollum, Darius Pierce, Victor Mack, and Amaya Villazan. Now, cast with professional actors, these courageous, heartfelt works are ready for an audience! For one performance only, join us in celebration of bold creativity, and enjoy character sketches, plays, and new pieces by incredible young artists.

Wow, thank you, Charles!
You can always see what we’re up to at our website, playwriteinc.org. Right now, we primarily work in the Portland Metro area, and do one workshop a year in Hillsboro, working with hispanic youth. Reaching out to more youth in the area and reaching out to other areas is definitely an exciting part of our long-term vision!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the show, and grateful that you attended. Thank you for your feedback!

This was a brilliant performance. I was moved by the incredible writing of all the young writers. I laughed. I cried. I recoiled, and I leaned in, learning and discovering powerful truths revealed by every writer.
Thanks for illuminating the voices of such amazing young people.
I’d love to see PlayWrite reach out to rural Oregon; our voices are waiting to be heard.
Thank you for this, PCS! We’re so excited to have your support and to be putting up a performance in your awesome space again.
